I have been using Fodor’s Guidebooks since my honeymoon in 1994. I really enjoy the organization of the book. There are sections devoted to main attractions, hotels, restaurants, shopping etc. Each of these sections are then divided by area of the city, and then by price or specialty. Therefore, as you find youself in a certain part of the city visiting a certain site, you can quickly find a great place to eat at the budget you need or shop for specialty items. My husband and I also enjoy antiques, and these guidebooks always help us find both the main antique shops, as well as flea markets. The Fodor’s Choices, in all price ranges, have never failed to please. Great tips for avoiding lines and crowds. I would recommend any of the books from the series.
My friends and I got a great deal of use from this guide book. The book is quite thick with lots of information in regard to the main sites, hotels, restaurants, shopping, etc. We would usually plan out our days by writing the addresses of our intenderd destinations on a small sheet of blank paper and hitting the streets with a good map. Eating in Paris is not cheap,so plan on going to the affordable (and delicious) food stand-type places for lunch and dinner unless you have lots of money to burn. Get the the Fodor’s Paris guide book with the laminated Streetwise Paris map and you will be all set for a great visit.
If you want to eat at good restaurants in paris you have to make reservations, the hotel you will stay in will make these arrangements for you. This book was totally useless to me. We followed the review on a bakery and ended up with a lousy omelet that cost us $20. We were far better off picking places by reading the menus at the street. In paris dont plan just take it as it goes.
