Travelling Snail, the Ultimate Travel Journal

Product Description

“The Travelling Snail” travel journal is a unique innovation evolving from the traditional journal notebook and it addresses the need created by the revival in independent tourism for all ages. Increasingly, travellers feel that they wish to explore the places they visit in greater depth, and want to record their experiences in travel journals that allow them to reminisce later on. Existing journals on the market today are little more than glorified notebooks that provide the traveller with limited assistance with how to experience travel more fully.”The Travelling Snail” travel journal takes a completely different approach and interacts with the traveller by prompting and assisting the writer to observe and then to write about their personal experiences. Unlike the traditional travel journal notebook, “Travelling Snail” provides a high degree of interaction with the traveller. This interaction is provided through a range of dedicated templates for each type of event that the traveller may experience while on holiday. “The Travelling Snail” travel journal includes interactive pages covering a comprehensive list of travel events, including; personal information, destination information, tour plan, travel itinerary, accommodation, eating and drinking, places of interest, excursions, People I met, knowledge, recipes, expenses, vaccinations, and packing list. The interactive pages are structured as form templates with labels prompting the traveller with extensive questions about his or her related experience. The templates provide organised and structured spaces for the traveller to write personal impressions, feelings and responses for each of the questions. The traveller still has to use a pen and make personal observations, which ensures that the romance of traditional travel writing and personal opinion are not lost in the process. The end result is a well-documented set of notes, in a neat and perceptive style, about the personal experiences of the traveller. The journal is handsomely bound in hardback black Balacron and incorporates an elastic closure, gold coloured ribbon place marker and an expandable pocket on the inside rear cover for keeping memorable ticket stubs, receipts or other items collected en route.

About the Author

George Sekulla created the Travelling Snail concept in 2008. George qualified as an engineer and spent the first 15 years of his career as a specialist satellite consulting engineer working on large international programmes with organisations such as the European Space Agency and NASA. He then spent 10 years creating a global consulting company specialising in the space industry. Throughout this time George travelled far and wide around the world as part of his career. During them George tried to chronicle his travels and his experiences of the places he visited but became frustrated with the traditional travel journal. A particular event in George’s life while visiting a restaurant in France sparked off an idea that eventually led to the Travelling Snail concept.

“…a wonderful combination: the beauty of (France’s) towns, the glory of its food, the delectability of its wine.” ~The Chicago Tribune

“Do not read this book when you’re hungry or thirsty.” ~The Times-Picayune

Review

‘Erudite, humbling and rhapsodic A… No thinking traveller interested in Poland should overlook this essential book.’ Guardian’Moran is a sensitive, intelligent companion, as able to capture the rapacious spirit and chaotic conditions of modern Poland as he is the mournful, savage ghosts of its past. The result is moving and absorbing’ Metro ‘A Country in the Moon is literary travel writing at its best: elegiac, informative and profound. It’s probably the best travel book I will read this year.’ Wanderlust’A well-crafted, spirited and original polonaise, triumphantly balancing humour with scholarship’ Observer’There is so much to admire in this well-researched and hugely entertaining book, and so much to learnA…if you fancy elegant erudition, A Country in the Moon is a three-star feast’ – Time Out
–This text refers to the

Product Description

Honouring a deathbed pledge to his uncle, Michael Moran set out to travel the length and breadth of Poland in order to get an up-close perspective of the country. In this poignant and insightful account, he gives an insider’s view of a country set on a path of wrenching change while simultaneously confronting ghosts from the wartime and communist past. In chronicling the resurrection of the nation from war and the Holocaust, Moran paints a portrait of cities lost and gained, monumental castles, primeval forests, and picturesque landscape gardens among the finest yet least-known in Europe. This captivating journey into the heart of Poland is a timely and brilliant celebration of the return to the European fold of a valiant and richly cultured nation.

Quiet Corners of Paris

Review

“To discover lesser-known quarters of the City of Light, consult Quiet Corners of Paris… This illustrated handbook takes you to often-overlooked parts of the city: its hidden villas, winding lanes, cobblestone courtyards and Renaissance fountains.” –Frank Wagner, Copley News Service

“Yes, noisy, bustling Paris has its quiet corners, and this attractive book describes them in loving detail. Most of the places mentioned here are out of doors and open to the public. The places range from museum courtyards and royal gardens to 15th Century cloisters and tiny passageways to the back streets and lanes of the various neighborhoods. Some famous sites are here (Luxembourg Gardens) but so are unknown treasures such as the Irish Cultural Center, housed in a townhouse used by the Irish Catholic collegiate community since 1775, or Paris’ lesser-known islands. And few places are as quiet as the city’s evocative cemeteries.” -The Chicago Tribune

“Many tour books promise to deliver “secrets” and never do. This one does. Many times…More than 80 suggestions. All very high on my list of “musts” the next time I find myself in Paris with a good book, a fresh cigar, a few hours to kill–and no desire to be anywhere near the Mona Lisa.” -Headbutler

“This small new York publisher is producing some of the most innovative, beautiful and rewarding guidebooks on the market.” –Minneapolis Star Tribune

“The Little Bookroom…wants travelers to slow down. They’ve carved themselves a niche in the over-crowded travel book industry by thinking small with titles that define the character of a city.” –The Pittsburgh Tribune

“For pocket-sized, covetable books, turn to The Little Bookroom.” –Vogue [UK]
